Call for Applications for 2026 PTDF-funded overseas scholarship for postgraduate studies.

The Federal Government of Nigeria has opened applications for the 2026 Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) Overseas Scholarship Scheme, providing Nigerian postgraduate students with the opportunity to study abroad under a fully funded program.

The announcement was shared on X (formerly Twitter) by Dada Olusegun, Special Adviser to the President on Social Media. According to the post, successful applicants will study in the United Kingdom, Germany, France, or Malaysia.

The PTDF scholarship covers MSc and PhD programs in fields related to the oil and gas industry. Full funding includes tuition fees, return airfare, accommodation, monthly living allowances, health insurance, and bench fees where required.

PTDF explained that the scholarship is part of a broader effort to build strong local expertise in Nigeria’s energy sector.

“The 2026 Overseas MSc and PhD Scholarships provide access to world-class training, research facilities, and global expertise while strengthening indigenous capacity in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry,” the agency stated.

For MSc applicants, the eligibility requirements include a minimum of a Second Class Lower (2.2) degree, completion of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), basic computer skills, and a minimum of five O-Level credits, including English Language and Mathematics.

For PhD candidates studying in the United Kingdom, PTDF noted that scholars will follow a split-site arrangement, conducting research between the College of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Kaduna (CPESK), and selected partner universities. These include Robert Gordon University, the University of Strathclyde, and the University of Portsmouth.

PTDF emphasized that the scholarship is highly competitive and that selection will be based strictly on merit.

“Only candidates who demonstrate exceptional merit and suitability will be considered,” the agency said.

Applicants will be evaluated based on academic performance, the quality of their research proposals, professional memberships, and how relevant their chosen field is to the oil and gas sector.

PTDF also reminded applicants to verify their National Identity Number (NIN) before applying. Multiple applications or the submission of false documents will result in automatic disqualification.

Interested candidates must apply online through scholarship.ptdf.gov.ng, selecting approved programs at PTDF partner institutions.

The application deadline is February 27, 2026.
