The Lawrence A. Ackerman Scholarship is a one-time award of $3,000 offered by the Fort Wayne Zoological Society to a high school senior who plans to pursue a career related to animal care or wildlife studies. The scholarship was established in 1992 by the family of the late Dr. Lawrence “Larry” Ackerman, who served as the Fort Wayne Zoo’s veterinarian for 25 years.
Graduating seniors from the following Indiana counties are eligible to apply: Adams, Allen, DeKalb, Huntington, Kosciusko, LaGrange, Noble, Steuben, Wabash, Wells, and Whitley.
The organization says the scholarship is aimed at supporting students demonstrating financial need, scholastic achievement, character, and a commitment to animal stewardship.
